Alf Young recently retired from The Herald where he held a series of senior editorial positions and was a leading columnist on business, economic and political issues. After an earlier career as a teacher and lecturer and a brief spell in politics, Alf's career in Scottish journalism spanned thirty years. He was a member of the group which devised the financial arrangements for Scotland's new devolved government, a member of BP's Scottish advisory board and chair of the Glasgow advisory board of Common Purpose between 2000 and 2007. He currently chairs the board of Riverside Inverclyde, the urban regeneration company charged with revitalising the waterfront on the Lower Clyde and recently became chair of Social Investment Scotland which provides loan finance to Scotland's third sector. Alf is a season ticket holder at Cappielow, home to Greenock Morton.
